Spoke Gallery is proud to present solo exhibition by Liliana Folta entitled, I Am the Observer and Nature is My Teacher. The exhibition dates are September 12th to October 22nd, 2022. The reception is Wednesday, September 14th 6 to 8pm and the hybrid Gallery talk Wednesday September 14th 7pm. The gallery and both events are free and open to the public. Regular gallery hours are Wednesdays – Fridays 12 to 5pm and Saturdays by appointment (For a Saturday appointment email [email protected] at least two days in advance). In October, there will be a free evening zoom panel that will discuss the importance of and how to support native plants in the ecosystem. Panelists, Date and Time TBA.
For her solo show, Folta is debuting her new site specific installation that features 12 of her circular shaped mixed media works. She creates these works by reusing “materials, such as recycled glass, chocolate paper, genuine stones, hand- made ceramic from previous projects and found objects. The works are painted with acrylic on paper and mounted on wood.” These new works feature images of North American native plants, native pollinators, and/or native birds.
Folta shares, “The essence of my artwork is related to personal experiences, social-political issues and the environment; depicting the challenges we confront as humans and my concern of how the eco system is reacting with society’s behavior. I materialize these concepts into ceramic sculptures, mixed media installations and paintings. During the spring of 2021 I was inspired by an organization that makes meadows for biodiversity. I joined the opportunity to research and learn about the importance of planting native plants for pollinators. Observation helped me understand how crucial native plants are to continue the natural process of the ecosystem; these habitats are systems where everything is connected. There is an urgent need to practice sustainable gardening. I want to be part of a better future by motivating private gardeners, urban parks, schools, churches and businesses with large green spaces to plant native plants, leaving a better planet for the next generation. As a visual artist, I use my creative tools and knowledge to design and create native gardens for anyone who wants to join in this endeavor.”
